I'm going to have to gloss over the first few games. We were playing with the mechanics of the ruleset (still are, really) and I wasn't as interested in keeping detailed notes as I was in figuring out how to keep the game running smoothly and enjoyably.
Alexander Grissom, Heir secundus to the District Countship meets his older half-brother, Harold. Their father, Count Grissom, is currently out of the District trying to salvage the annexation of the District by the Imperium. At the time of his departure, things did not look as dire as they are currently.
Alexander is informed by Harold that, in response to pressure on the Aslan border, the bulk of the subsector Navy has been shifted to cover that flank - leaving the Imperial Expeditionary Fleet, based at Elixabeth, with the task of deterring the increasingly expansionistic Sword World from crossing that border. Harold, it appears, has been doing a lot of force-shifting since the departure of their father, and Alexander is left with the distinct impression that while his task has the appearance of importance (he is being asked to review the readiness states of the border worlds and evaluate the defences), Harold would not entirely mind it if he were to take quite a while to do so. Or, for that matter, to be caught in the crossfire should there be a cross-border incursion.
To facilitate Alexander's survey, he is given one of the family starships, an older 200-ton safari ship, armed with two turrets. The crew consists of a Pilot, Engineer, two gunners and a Steward. Alexander brings with him a retired Imperial Admiral to perform the actual survey.
The Admiral should
prove to be an interesting charactor, the following is a character profile done
by Chris on at http://www.travellerrpg.com:
The Captain
(He just goes by Captain...) is an ex-Fleet Admiral in the Imperial Navy. When
he retired, he opted out of the Admiral Retirement Program, and he's been on
the run from the Impies since. (i.e. He refused the standard chemical debriefing/reprogramming,
and the offer to transfer to some quiet, low tech, world somewhere and raise
sheep :-) After drifting around outside the Imperium, he eventually found himself
in District 268 where he met Alexander and got the job as Captain of the Safari
Ship. He shares Alexander's interest in the Ancients.
"Deprogramming". "Raise Sheep". Heck - you'd think he was going to wake up in a small island bungalow with the number 6 on all his clothes! I don't know where they get these ideas.
heh heh heh
